Association staff meet with NCUA Region 1 leadership

Yesterday, Credit Union Association of New York staff met with NCUA Region I Director Larry Blankenberger, his senior staff members and Region 1 supervisory examiners at their Albany office.

Together, the group had open dialogue on regulatory issues and compliance challenges facing New York credit unions. Association SVP/General Counsel Mike Lanotte, Member Relations VP Tracy Conner and Compliance Director Mike Carter attended the meeting.

"Our dialogue with Mr. Blankenberger and his staff was very productive," said Lanotte. "As always, they were extremely receptive to our feedback and interested in opportunities to help credit unions succeed."

The Association will continue meeting with Blankenberger and his staff twice annually to discuss key issues.

NCUA hosting budget preparation webinar

NCUA will host a free webinar on budget preparation Aug. 13 at 2 p.m. The webinar is open to credit unions of all asset sizes, and online registration is available.

Vanessa Lowe, an economic development specialist with NCUA's Office of Small Credit Union Initiatives, will discuss the rationale for designing and implementing a budget that captures the strategic mission of a credit union. She will also outline the process for creating a budget, gathering the required documentation and identifying other budget preparation issues.

Participants will also have the opportunity to hear from a credit union representative who has used budget preparation techniques successfully in strategic and business planning.

Participants may submit questions in advance by emailing webinarquestions@ncua.gov with a subject line of "Budget Preparation Webinar."

Filene seeking input on CU regulatory burden

Filene Research Institute is asking credit unions to complete a survey on increasing regulation on credit unions in Canada and the United States. Responses are due August 13, and the survey is available online.

These responses will form the basis of a study seeking to quantify regulatory burden for credit unions-particularly its differing effects across asset sizes. For more information about the initiative, visit Filene's website.
